About the position

Participates as a team member in the implementation of the nursing process in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. Responsible and accountable for a group of patients spanning all ages, cultures and disability concerns for a designated time frame. Functions within policies, practice guidelines and nursing standards of Sturdy Memorial Hospital in accordance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, CDC and OSHA standards, and any other applicable regulatory or accreditation agency. Assists with training, onboarding, and professional development efforts of new and/or existing clinical team members including Medical Assistants. Mentors office staff and facilitates team development.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the implementation of the nursing process in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.
  • Responsible for a group of patients spanning all ages, cultures, and disability concerns.
  • Functions within policies, practice guidelines, and nursing standards.
  • Assists with training, onboarding, and professional development of clinical team members.
  • Mentors office staff and facilitates team development.
  • Measures, documents, and monitors vitals, weight, and height.
  • Obtains a basic medical history including chief complaint, medication history, social history, and family history.
  • Triages patients appropriately.
  • Establishes rapport with patients and provides patient education.
  • Prepares patients for visits and in-office procedures.
  • Communicates patient's health and behavioral status to providers.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients and co-workers.
  • Demonstrates functions to maintain continuity of care for patients.
  • Administers medications/immunizations.
  • Handles difficult patient interactions with ease.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Licensed Practice Nurse Program.
  • Current Massachusetts licensure.
  • BLS competent.
  • Unit/Specialty specific certifications.
  • Experienced Clinical Nursing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to manage prior authorization and referral process.
