About the position

The Charge Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the daily nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, while maintaining the highest quality of care as directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents.
  • Supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
  • Maintain the highest degree of quality care at all times.
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret nursing programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff regarding resident conditions.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program.
  • Must have a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN/LVN in the state.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to long-term care.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory ability.
  • Ability to handle difficult residents with patience and tact.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in long-term care facilities.
  • Certification in nursing leadership or management.
