About the position

The Low Voltage/Security Estimator Level 1-3 at Cochran Inc. is responsible for performing plan and specification reviews, conducting quantity take-offs, and entering data into estimating software. This role supports the Senior Estimator or Chief Estimator in creating detailed estimates and ensuring accuracy in the estimation process. The position offers opportunities for growth through different levels, with increasing responsibilities and pay based on experience and competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specification and plan review.
  • Conduct accurate quantity take-off and data entry into estimating software.
  • Assist in creating detailed estimates from conceptual design information.
  • Create Excel pricing worksheets and bills of materials.
  • Develop estimate scope and narrative.
  • Assist with preparation and review of vendor bid packages.
  • Participate in the estimate review process.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to confirm estimating approach consistency with construction methods.
  • Maintain department databases and vendor contacts.
  • Become certified in applicable manufacturers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in the low voltage electrical or security construction industry for Level 1.
  • Understanding of low voltage electrical theory and installations or advanced computer skills for Level 1.
  • Possession of 06 or equivalent license and/or certifications in security-related manufacturers or industry for Level 2/3.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications.
  • Mathematical abilities to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Accubid Enterprise software.
  • Familiarity with construction document reading.
  • Additional certifications in related fields.
