About the position

The Loss Mitigation Specialist plays a crucial role in assessing borrower situations to identify optimal solutions that align with investor guidelines, aiming to avoid foreclosure whenever possible. This position involves understanding each borrower's unique circumstances and recommending strategies to help them retain homeownership and prevent future defaults, while ensuring compliance throughout the decision-making process.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing financial information by reviewing documents such as credit reports, financial statements, and collateral appraisals to assess the borrower's income.
  • Creating payment plans using the borrower's debt and liabilities to develop a plan that allows them to make loan payments.
  • Educating borrowers by explaining options available to them, including programs and resources that may assist them.
  • Communicating with borrowers to maintain contact and address their concerns throughout the process.
  • Managing loss mitigation documents and performing quality assurance on work to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Adhering to guidelines to prevent foreclosure and ensure compliance with company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two years' underwriting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of default loss mitigation servicing, specifically with FHA loans preferred.
  • Experience on a mortgage servicing platform is a plus.
  • Ability to work with vendors and other departments to obtain documentation when needed.
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
