About the position
The Long-Term Substitute Elementary Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year at West Central School District is responsible for planning and developing the guidance program and curriculum to meet the needs of pupils. The counselor will help students understand themselves in relation to their social and psychological environments, develop decision-making skills, and resolve personal issues. The role includes coordinating pupil appraisal, providing information about educational and career opportunities, and assisting in the placement of students. The counselor will also serve as a consultant to parents and staff, conduct local research related to pupil needs, and promote the safety and well-being of students within the district.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop the guidance program and curriculum.
- Help pupils understand themselves in relation to their social and psychological world.
- Assist pupils in developing personal decision-making competencies.
- Coordinate pupil appraisal and interpret information about pupils.
- Collect and disseminate information concerning school offerings and career opportunities.
- Make appropriate referrals to community services.
- Assist in providing placement services for pupils.
- Consult with parents regarding their children's growth and development.
- Serve as a consultant to administrative and teaching staff in guidance.
- Conduct local research related to pupil needs.
- Participate in public relations programs for the counseling and guidance programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with SD Department of Education School Service Specialist Certificate.
- Appropriate experience in counseling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and Internet.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with frequent interruptions.
Benefits
- $150.00 per day salary.
