About The Position

Scout Veterinary Urgent Care offers same-day and next-day urgent care appointments, bridging the gap between routine primary care and emergency services. This veterinarian will primarily support the Lincoln Park clinic, managing approximately 10-18 patients daily. Cases range from routine last-minute care to more intricate cases requiring in-house diagnostics, treatments, and nursing care, with a focus on true urgent care and stable emergencies. The clinic is equipped with a full in-house diagnostic lab, digital radiology, ultrasound, AI-enabled scribe access, and robust communication channels. Scout fosters strong relationships with referral partners to ensure comprehensive care for pets. The role involves 10-hour shifts, with the clinic open 7 days a week. There are 9 open shifts available through the end of July 2026, with potential for a full-time relief position starting in September. Preference is given to local Chicagoland candidates for long-term, flexible work.

Requirements

  • Licensed DVM in Illinois
  • 2+ years of experience in small animal general practice or emergency medicine

Responsibilities

  • Deliver superior medicine and an excellent customer experience
  • Oversee patient triage and evaluation
  • Provide examination, diagnostic recommendations, and treatment to scheduled and walk-in appointments
  • Provide clear, transparent, and prompt communication with clients and referral partners regarding patient status, diagnostic and treatment plans, estimates, and follow-up care
  • Stabilize patients for transfer to a local emergency/specialty hospital, as needed
  • Develop follow up plans with patient’s primary care veterinarian as needed
  • Maintenance of referral relationships via communication with care partners
