About the position
The Loader position at O'Neal Steel involves loading and unloading materials within a warehouse environment. The role requires the use of various material handling equipment and adherence to safety procedures while ensuring high-quality work for internal and external customers. The position operates primarily during the 3rd shift, with responsibilities focused on material handling and compliance with load regulations.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload material within the warehouse using hand trucks, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other handling equipment.
- Safely load multi-stop loads for customer delivery while adhering to DOT weight regulations.
- Verify the accuracy of material, quantity, packaging, and special instructions for each order being shipped.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area, performing all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Utilize a variety of hand tools for loading duties, including grinders, banders, drills, and wrenches.
- Provide high-quality work to all internal and external customers related to the output of the position.
- Learn and retain a large range of product knowledge and standard handling and rigging procedures.
Requirements
- Ability to operate a wide variety of material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, and stacker cranes.
- Critical thinking skills for planning and problem-solving.
- Strong understanding of load balancing to meet DOT weight regulations.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and verify material accuracy.
- Experience in maintaining a safe work environment and following safety procedures.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with yard dogs and side loaders.
- Knowledge of rigging procedures across various products.
