About the position

The Load Builder I position at Builders FirstSource involves routine loading and unloading of materials within a yard or work site. The role is essential for assembling load packages for delivery to customer job sites, ensuring that materials are handled safely and efficiently under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles.
• Installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Performs load-building, determining the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and delivery vehicle capacity.
• Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded.
• Conveys materials to or from storage to designated areas using hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other devices.
• Opens containers and loads using steel cutters, crowbars, or other hand tools.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials for correct identification.
• Understands and observes all safety procedures to prevent injury to self or co-workers.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Forklift certification required.
• Three months of experience performing similar tasks or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and write to handle work orders and labeling tasks.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while performing forklift driving and materials handling tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of company products sufficient to take into account weight, shape, and handling requirements.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
