About the position

The Operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace. This includes rotating stock to ensure the oldest materials are used first, noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates, or containers, and recording items added or removed from inventory. The role involves using an industrial forklift and a hand-held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. Operators work from written or verbal instructions to operate a forklift for moving, loading, and unloading products while adhering to department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, they perform minor service on equipment, complete daily safety inspections, and report any issues to supervisors. The Operator is also responsible for maintaining a clean work area and equipment, creating product labels, and entering information into computer programs efficiently. They must be able to maneuver forklifts in tight spaces and participate as a team member in ongoing development and communication of team concepts and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the storage area.
  • Rotate stock to use oldest materials first.
  • Note and report damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Use an industrial forklift and hand-held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking.
  • Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload products.
  • Perform minor service on equipment and complete daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report problems to supervisors.
  • Change fuel bottles and refuel forklifts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter information into computer programs.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone.
  • Participate in team meetings and foster team cohesiveness.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company-issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar and FIFO practices.
  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN, and JDE.
