About the position

The position involves assisting the Food & Nutrition Services Department in various culinary functions, including grill, pantry, bakery, and catering. The role requires maintaining high standards of food production, sanitation, and customer service while leading by example and ensuring a clean and well-maintained kitchen and dining area. The individual will be responsible for overseeing production areas, managing staff, and ensuring quality service and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in multiple areas of the Food & Nutrition Services Department including grill, pantry, bakery, and catering.
  • Follow up and follow through in assigned production areas.
  • Support and direct salad bar/hotline service specialists and production specialists.
  • Maintain and monitor salad bar, hotline, and server areas for cleanliness and product availability.
  • Lead by example in maintaining the overall appearance of the dining/servery area.
  • Ensure standards for grill production and proper food handling are followed.
  • Oversee the efficient operation of the pantry area and salad bar function.
  • Assist with setup, service, and breakdown of catering events as assigned.
  • Participate in daily shift briefings to discuss production needs and status.
  • Report incidents/accidents to management immediately.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED with the ability to read, write, and comprehend at a 12th-grade level.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper sanitation and safety practices related to food production.
  • ServSafe Certified required.
  • Valid driver's license to operate department motor vehicles.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a production chef/apprentice in quantity food production.
  • Minimum 2 years of team leader experience with proven ability to lead team members.
  • Knowledge of proper use of chemicals and OSHA regulations.
  • General knowledge of food service equipment and kitchen utensils.
  • Ability to read recipes and understand measurements.
  • Strong customer service skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Dependable, organized, and demonstrates attention to detail.
