The Lifeguard / Swim Instructor position for Fall 2024 at SUNY Cortland involves two primary roles: ensuring the safety of patrons at the Student Life Center Pool and Park Center Pools, and providing swim instruction to individuals of all ages. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety rules, and performing life-saving techniques when necessary. You will also conduct pool chemistry tests and complete daily safety checks to maintain a secure environment for all users. This role requires a commitment to attend mandatory in-service training sessions and meetings as required by the Cortland County Health Department. In your capacity as a Swim Instructor, you will develop and deliver swim lessons that adhere to the standards set by the American Red Cross or equivalent accreditation. You will evaluate the performance and progress of participants, ensuring that all facility policies are followed. Effective communication with clients and their guardians is essential to provide a positive learning experience. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, with morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts available, as swim instruction must occur during the operational hours of the Student Life Center pool.
