About the position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at Gateways Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting Registered Nurses (RNs) in the planning, organization, and implementation of patient care. This position involves administering personal care, medications, and treatments as per hospital policies and nursing standards. The LVN is integral to enhancing patient care through participation in care conferences and staff development, while also maintaining a positive therapeutic environment for patients and staff alike.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the RN in care planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and staff development programs.
  • Assists the RN with orientation and instruction of aides, unit secretaries, patients, and families.
  • Counsels patients and modifies behavior as a positive role model.
  • Helps formulate patient assessments, nursing interventions, and goals with the treatment team.
  • Performs related work as assigned by the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
  • Contributes to a positive therapeutic milieu through responsible communication.
  • Responsible for policy, procedure, and safety suggestions to relevant directors.
  • Maintains competence in clinical and interpersonal skills necessary for the role.
  • Seeks learning opportunities for continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited college/university/school.
  • Passed CA LVN State Board exam and holds a license in good standing.
  • One year of experience in an adult and/or adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit.
  • Experience with involuntary patients and Management Of Aggressive Behavior.
  • Completion of clinical rotation in Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Completion of curriculum Pharmacology Class.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with adolescent and adult patients.
  • Basic physical assessment skills.
  • Understanding of individual, group, and family psychotherapy.
