About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position within the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) at the Department of Veterans Affairs focuses on providing evidence-based psychotherapy and treatment coordination for Resident Veterans facing complex mental health and psychosocial challenges. The role aims to maximize rehabilitation potential and assist Veterans in achieving stability in emotional, economic, and housing aspects before reintegrating into their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and implement psychosocial interventions.
  • Develop treatment plans in collaboration with Veterans based on initial assessments.
  • Coordinate treatment and discharge planning within the VA system to facilitate community re-engagement for Veterans.
  • Conduct daily group treatment coordination meetings and individual sessions with Veterans.
  • Provide a minimum of 15 group hours per week and supplemental individual sessions as needed.
  • Coordinate community-based services and referrals for additional support.
  • Identify high-risk patients and provide crisis intervention services.
  • Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families.
  • Provide consultation services to staff regarding the psychosocial needs of Veterans.
  • Evaluate own practice through peer review and case conferences.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of theories and modalities for treating complex mental illness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed LPMHCs.
  • Familiarity with the VA system and community resources for Veterans.
  • Advanced skills in crisis intervention and case management.
