About The Position

The role of a Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) LPN involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities to ensure patient readiness for surgery. This includes obtaining medical histories, educating patients on pre-surgery procedures, documenting screening calls, and correlating clinical data with medical and nursing care. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The Pre-Admission Testing LPN also participates in training new team members, maintains patient privacy, and provides pre- and post-operative support.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse for Three (3) plus years required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License in Florida
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Two (2) plus years of experience Multi-Specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center or Outpatient facility, preferred.
  • Building strong relationships with Physicians.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pre-Admission Testing of two (2) plus years is desirable.
  • Pre & Post Operative of two (2) plus years is desirable.
  • IV certification desirable

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining the patient’s medical and surgical history, including medication, allergies, and reactions.
  • Interpreting and following the PAT guidelines as set by the ASC.
  • Educating, reviewing, and providing instructions in preparation of surgery.
  • Documenting the details of the screening call.
  • Correlating clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, teammates, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participating in the orientation and training of new LPN nursing staff.
  • Demonstrating appropriate knowledge and competence in skills identified for the position.
  • Promoting physical comfort, emotional support, and safety for patients and their families.
  • Respecting the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Performing pre-operative and post-operative phone calls to patients, obtaining pre-anesthesia assessments, reviewing pre-op instructions, and following up after surgery.
  • Operating, cleaning, and caring for equipment according to procedure.
  • Setting priorities to facilitate the efficient flow of patients to the OR and PACU.
  • Verifying surgical/procedure site with the patient.
  • Initiating IV access with IV certification.
  • Reviewing physician's pre-operative and post-operative orders and instructions.
  • Practicing and monitoring aseptic techniques.
  • Assisting with Medical record management as needed.
  • Positioning the patient with attention to body alignment, airway maintenance, and circulation.
  • Maintaining, stocking, and replenishing supplies for both pre-operative and PACU departments. Notifying appropriate staff to order supplies as needed.
  • Assisting physicians and anesthesia personnel as needed.
  • Maintaining a neat and organized environment that promotes safety.
  • Maintaining attendance according to facility guidelines and policies.
  • Providing notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness per departmental procedures and requesting time off according to the established procedure.
  • Attending unit-based staff meetings and reviewing minutes for any meetings missed.
  • Maintaining certification requirements and submitting required certifications to facility management.
  • Being professional, courteous, helpful, and cooperative, interacting with all patients, families, visitors, and employees in a mature, positive manner.
  • Following Infection Prevention and Control guidelines. Notifying Clinical Manager of any suspicion of a possible cross contamination.
  • Complying with OSHA and Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, and all facility policies and procedures.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the manager.
