About the position

The Licensed Behavioral Health Specialist position at Praxis involves working with chronically homeless individuals living with HIV+ and those with histories of chemical dependencies and mental illness. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in this field, focusing on both individual and family units with special needs, including addiction, MICA, and domestic violence. Responsibilities include conducting pre-intake mental health evaluations, scheduling follow-up sessions, documenting clinical findings, co-facilitating case conferences, providing crisis intervention, monitoring treatment adherence, signing off on clinical service plans, and providing clinical supervision to the case management team. Additional duties may be required as per program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-intake mental health evaluations and recommendations.
  • Schedule follow-up sessions with clients as needed.
  • Document all clinical findings.
  • Co-facilitate case conferences.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Monitor and follow up on mental health treatment adherence.
  • Sign off on all clinical service plan developments.
  • Provide clinical supervision to the case management team.
  • Perform other duties as required by program requirements.

Requirements

  • A valid NYS License to provide behavioral health services (LMHC, LMSW, or LCSW).
  • Prior experience conducting psycho-social assessments including the development of person-centered service plans.
  • Prior experience working with chronic homeless persons with HIV/AIDS, many of whom have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong behavioral interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of NYS Mental Health screening tool MHSF III (preferred).
  • Excellent communication, listening, and therapeutic skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic case management systems (Foothold Awards a plus).
  • Fluency in Spanish (a plus).

Nice-to-haves

  • CASAC certification.
  • Familiarity with Harm Reduction Practice.
