About the position

View Point Health is a community behavioral health center utilizing a team of psychiatrists, nurses, licensed counselors and social workers, and other professionals to provide services to individuals who need treatment and support to cope with mental illness, substance abuse, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. View Point Health serves uninsured, underinsured, low-income Medicaid, Medicare, war veterans and some private insurance across multiple locations with a full continuum of behavioral health services and support. The services provided by View Point Health contribute to the reduction in homelessness, reduction in crime and subsequent incarcerations, higher graduation rates, lower dropout rates, decreased ER visits and decreased inpatient admissions. The Law Enforcement/Co-Responder Program is a partnership with Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton County law enforcement agencies and View Point Health aimed at reducing the incarceration of mentally ill individuals and linking them with treatment. The programs pairs behavioral health clinicians with officers and deputies to respond together in situation of mental health crisis. The clinician performs brief assessments consulting with the officers to determine appropriate dispositions for services, arrests, diversion from arrests, diversion from unnecessary emergency department visits, or some combination of criminal justice/behavioral health treatment involvement. The clinician also facilitates training for police officers to increase competencies in intervening with a behavioral health crisis. The clinician will work in conjunction with and collaboratively as part of the Emergency Service Provider.

Responsibilities

  • Perform brief assessments in mental health crisis situations.
  • Consult with law enforcement officers to determine appropriate dispositions for services.
  • Facilitate training for police officers on behavioral health crisis intervention.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency service providers.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university.
  • Eligibility to be licensed.
