About the position

Fort Bend County is seeking a dedicated individual to assist with library materials and services in a courteous and professional manner. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that library operations run smoothly and that patrons receive the assistance they need. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to patron inquiries both by phone and in person, ensuring that all library materials are shelved correctly and maintaining order on the shelves. The role involves using an automated system to charge and discharge library materials, as well as receiving, sorting, and processing delivery items. Additionally, the candidate will prepare items for the Hold Shelf and reroute circulation materials to other branches as necessary. The position also includes registering patrons and issuing library cards, as well as collecting fines and fees. Participation in staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings, and training sessions is expected. Other duties may include ordering supplies, processing periodicals, mending and cleaning books and audiovisual items, and managing library materials and invoices. The candidate will also be responsible for creating records, changing holdings using an automated system, processing mail for the library system, and performing database maintenance as needed. This role is essential in providing a welcoming and efficient library experience for all patrons.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Relevant customer service and cash handling experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills; keyboard and typing skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact easily with staff and the public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
