The Rutgers Law School seeks a Library Assistant II based at the Camden location. This position is integral to the library's operations, primarily responsible for circulation desk coverage. The Library Assistant II will be tasked with opening and closing the library, welcoming patrons, answering phone inquiries, charging and discharging loans, retrieving reserve materials, and assisting patrons with computer access. Additionally, the role involves recording statistics and providing directional assistance. In the absence of a Reference Librarian, the Library Assistant II will assist patrons in locating specific materials in both hardcopy and online sources, given full or partial citations. Other circulation duties may include fulfilling interlibrary loan requests and handling digitization requests. This position requires the provision of circulation services on weekdays and reports directly to the Daytime Supervisor. Key duties for this position include maintaining accurate data in the online catalog, creating online brief, control, and check-in records, and placing holds for items borrowed from other libraries. The Library Assistant II will perform pre-cataloging and database searches, process materials returned from cataloging, and help resolve cataloging problems. The role also involves maintaining check-in records and contacting vendors regarding claims. The assistant will locate and process materials for reserve via online and manual systems and compile statistics. Scanning documents for posting as electronic reserves and assisting library patrons with problems and questions at the reserve desk are also part of the responsibilities. The Library Assistant II will work at the circulation and/or information desks as scheduled, providing assistance and instruction to library patrons in all circulation desk functions. The position may require resolving billing problems and collecting fines from library patrons. Representing the local unit, the Library Assistant II may participate in functional groups or work teams under the direction of the functional group or team leader. There may also be opportunities to lead, guide, and train students and other library assistants in all aspects of circulation, including charging, discharging, maintenance records, ordering replacements for missing books, recalls, and overdue notices. The Library Assistant II may take charge of the department or a smaller branch library during the night or weekend schedule and will perform related duties as required. The library is currently recruiting for two vacancies.
