The Library Assistant position at Live Oak Public Libraries is a part-time role that requires delivering exceptional customer service to patrons. Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, the Library Assistant will engage in various day-to-day tasks that support public service functions. This includes providing general information and reader advisory services, assisting patrons with inquiries, and performing circulation services. The role may also involve specialized tasks at library locations, such as planning and instructing library programming or providing support for children's services. In this position, the Library Assistant will be responsible for daily branch operations, including opening and closing procedures, shelving library materials, and maintaining the appearance of the library. The assistant will also assist with marketing library collections and services through displays and exhibits, and provide basic troubleshooting support for patrons using library technology. Cash handling and assistance with electronic resources are also part of the job responsibilities. The Library Assistant may prepare and present programming under the guidance of a supervisor and may act as the Person-In-Charge in the absence of senior staff. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to exceeding customer expectations, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities. Familiarity with public library services and materials, as well as experience in a library or educational environment, is preferred.
