About The Position

The Library Aide is responsible for the creation of an effective Media Center for use by students and staff member alike. The employee’s physical condition shall be commensurate with the demands of the position. Ability to work well with children. Ability to communicate effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Ability to abide by and enforce school district policies, administrative rules, regulations and directives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, administrators other district support staff, teachers, and the general public.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and reports.
  • Some knowledge of library materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Continues professional improvement.
  • Such other qualifications that the board of education may find acceptable.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to use of data processing and spreadsheet computer software.
  • Some experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes new books by typing and affixing appropriate categorical code.
  • Assists in shelving new books, types and files catalog cards, assists students with reference assignments.
  • Files pamphlets and periodical materials, sorts and places returned books to appropriate shelves.
  • Assists students in locating books to students, types book orders, prepares inventory and circulation reports.
  • Inspects returned books for damage and repairs books as necessary.
  • Instruct student library helpers in work routines.
  • Refers students to school librarian for professional assistance.
  • Provides instruction related support services under the direction of teachers.
  • Provides support and assistance to the local school planning team.
  • Assists in the supervision of students during visit to the library and may supervise lunchroom and playground activities.
  • Participates and assists with the implementation of innovative education activities.
  • Assists students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
  • Greets and directs visitors to appropriate areas of the school.
  • Operates computers, audio-visual equipment such as videocassette recorders, and movie services to students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Assists in collecting and grading students homework assignments and examination materials under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Create an atmosphere for employee productivity and satisfaction.
  • Follows and implements measures to make the library a supportive element of the instructions program.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Librarian or Principal.
