About the position

The Legal Counsel role for Schaeffler Group USA Inc. is a regional counsel role. This position will share responsibility with the rest of the U.S. legal team to represent Schaeffler in the U.S and Canada via supporting the commercial and technology team (Sales and Purchasing) and the corporate legal functions team (e.g., Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Governance, Real Estate, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Advise and guide HR and management on federal, state, and local employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, etc.
  • Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and practices to align with legal requirements.
  • Manage employment-related administrative proceedings and litigation, including before the EEOC, DOL, etc., with the assistance of outside counsel.
  • Conduct training for management and employees on employment law topics.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate Procurement agreements, including supply contracts, vendor agreements, and service contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies in procurement activities.
  • Advise on risk management and mitigation strategies related to procurement activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve contractual disputes and address supplier performance issues.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting procurement practices and advise the company on necessary adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain templates and processes to streamline legal reviews and approvals.
  • Facilitate real estate deals like acquisitions and dispositions. Draft and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, AIA documents, as well as leases and other ancillary agreements.
  • Identify and manage potential legal risks, ensuring alignment with the company’s business objectives.

Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited school plus admitted to the Bar
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, coupled with outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • At least five years previous experience in one of the following: procurement law or employment law

  • Demonstrated capability to thrive both independently and collaboratively within team settings
  • Familiarity and background in litigation
  • Experience in international law is considered an advantage
  • Proven leadership skills in driving projects, with expertise in establishing objectives and guiding cross-functional teams
  • Willingness and capacity for travel, including international destinations
  • Skillful in prioritizing diverse tasks while delivering pragmatic, business-oriented legal guidance
