About The Position

The Learning and Organizational Development Internship provides administrative and customer support to assist with the coordination and delivery of professional development and training initiatives for state employees. This role serves as the first point of contact for visitors and participants by managing reception desk responsibilities, responding to inquiries and ensuring a professional and welcoming environment. In addition, the intern supports Training Coordinators with scheduling, class preparation, participant communication, training logistics, data entry and maintaining training records. The position offers hands-on experience in workforce development, customer service, organizational operations and public sector training administration while contributing to the department's mission to lead, collaborate and innovate in support of South Carolina State Government. This internship is onsite in Columbia, SC.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional demeanor with excellent customer service abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in human resources, organizational development, public administration or training and development.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, participants and staff by managing the reception area in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Answer phone calls, respond to emails and direct inquiries to appropriate team members.
  • Prepare training materials, attendance sheets, name tents and participant packets.
  • Support classroom setup, technology checks and event logistics before and after training sessions.
  • Maintain participant records, training databases and filing systems with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Provide customer service support to state employees and agency partners regarding training program information.
  • Support special projects and administrative tasks as assigned by the learning and organizational development team.
