About the position

The Lead Technician position at UNC Charlotte is responsible for overseeing personnel and procedures within the Building Environmental Services unit. This role involves team leadership, ensuring the effective operation of cleaning and maintenance activities, and supporting the Building Environmental Services Supervisor in their absence. The Lead Technician will work primarily from Tuesday to Saturday, focusing on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency within the facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing personnel and procedures of all employees on the Team.
  • Lead team activities from Tuesday to Saturday as building and programmatic needs dictate.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and repair records.
  • Compile maintenance checklist and report needs to the BES Zone Supervisor.
  • Complete individual duties and responsibilities as assigned; check the work of other crew members and correct deficiencies.
  • Test and suggest recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
  • Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and trash removal functions.
  • Encourage team members to follow established Building Environmental Services, Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte University, and State Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Two years of experience operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment, or three years of experience as a housekeeper, or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
  • Ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
  • Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills in English (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
