About the position

The Lead Teacher at BronxWorks plays a crucial role in fostering the development and growth of children aged 0-5 years in a nurturing and supportive environment. This position involves following all OSHA requirements and assisting the Program Director or Program Coordinator in the development of program goals and early childhood activities. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for preparing lesson plans that comply with ACD regulations and implementing various educational, recreational, and social activities that promote children's development. Engaging children in team-building activities and providing classroom management are essential components of this role. In addition to direct interaction with children, the Lead Teacher will assist individual children or groups with dressing and toilet training, ensuring sanitary conditions, and changing diapers as necessary. Regular attendance at staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops on early childhood education is required to stay updated on best practices. The Lead Teacher will also meet monthly with the program coordinator and/or program director for supervision and act as a liaison with parents to foster communication and support. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Education or Early Childhood preferred)
  • Clearance through New York State Central Registry and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services
  • First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Responding to Emergency (RTE) certification, or ability to obtain within 3-6 months
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency in a second language preferred
  • Two years of experience working in a day care, pre-school, or special education setting preferred
