About the position

The Lead Social Scientist at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is responsible for planning and conducting sociological and economic impact studies to evaluate and interpret public attitudes, opinions, and values regarding wildlife resource management and conservation. This role aims to enhance the Commission's capacity to develop effective management strategies and public policies, while also fostering partnerships with various stakeholders. The position is based in Raleigh, NC, and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, requiring 40 hours of work per week.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct sociological and economic impact studies.
  • Evaluate and analyze public attitudes toward wildlife resource management and conservation.
  • Interpret economic impacts and benefits of wildlife management activities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with constituent groups, universities, and the public.
  • Coordinate with agency staff to inform policy development and program evaluation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of related experience in social science research or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting social and economic data.
  • Experience managing research projects and programs.
  • Experience facilitating focus groups, interviews, and meetings.
