About the position

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Lead/Senior/Principal Level Environmental Planner - NEPA to join their New Mexico/Four Corners Team. This role involves overseeing environmental impact analyses, facilitating outreach, and ensuring quality during the development of Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and team members across various offices. This full-time position offers flexibility in work location, including options for hybrid or remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the preparation of EAs and EISs for various projects, including revisions of federal resource management plans and land use plans.
  • Support business line growth objectives in areas such as land use planning, generation, transmission, and water.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance for NEPA document preparation and the NEPA process, including public scoping and comment review.
  • Demonstrate leadership and professionalism at the project, team, and office level.
  • Provide expertise on complex NEPA projects to SWCA project managers.
  • Contribute to business development pursuits and proposals.
  • Supervise and mentor early and mid-career staff in NEPA analysis and document preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting experience.
  • Management experience on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations including NEPA, FLPMA, CWA, ESA, and NHPA.
  • Proven experience with public lands, land use planning, and various project types in the western US.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in business development and proposal management.
  • Familiarity with wind and solar projects, water projects, transportation projects, and oil/gas projects.
