About the position

The Lead Research Scientist at Humana will play a pivotal role in the Clinical Analytics Team, focusing on improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. This position involves leveraging data science and analytics to identify and develop solutions that optimize healthcare delivery, reduce costs, and enhance member health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including clinicians and strategy partners, to shape enterprise clinical strategies and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Research, prototype and scale new ideas to improve population health and healthcare delivery.
  • Collaborate with analytic and business teams to set objectives, approaches, and work plans.
  • Evaluate existing programs and identify new solutions to impact healthcare.
  • Leverage analytics methods to transform complex data into actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with clinicians to define clinical concepts and extract relevant information for analytics.
  • Translate analytic results into key takeaways and recommendations for business partners.
  • Understand and translate organizational strategy into work priorities.
  • Make decisions regarding work methods in ambiguous situations.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related fields.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry and healthcare data such as claims and EHR.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience leveraging structured and unstructured data.
  • Proficient in manipulating and analyzing data with programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with big data and using PySpark, Spark R or Spark Scala.
  • Experience with causal inference and causal machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with clinical concepts related to chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and behavioral health.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare payer economics and related areas.
  • Experience managing people and multiple projects.
