About The Position

As a Lead Operating Engineer in Healthcare at JLL, you will serve as a critical leader within our facilities operations team, supervising and directing maintenance personnel in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all base building and critical system machinery and equipment. This senior-level position requires both technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities as you coordinate the activities of the operating team, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain the highest standards of safety and reliability in a healthcare environment. Your work directly contributes to JLL's commitment to operational excellence and patient safety by ensuring critical building systems operate flawlessly 24/7. You will assume the duties and responsibilities of the Operations Manager in their absence, making you a key figure in maintaining the continuity of essential healthcare facility operations. By leading a skilled team, implementing preventative maintenance programs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, you will help create safe, compliant environments that support exceptional patient care and clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma with two years of trade or vocational schooling or apprenticeship in electrical, piping/plumbing, refrigeration, or HVAC
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare facility/plant engineering maintenance with thorough understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory surveys
  • Multi-skills in a minimum of two craft areas with exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering and operation
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License with ability to frequently walk up and down stairs for inspections and emergency procedures
  • Physical ability to climb ladders up to 40 feet, lift 60 lbs. repeatedly, and get on hands and knees to reach areas difficult to access during equipment inspections
  • Ability to detect emergency alarms (auditory and/or visual) and visually inspect machinery and buildings

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate well in both oral and written formats, instilling professionalism in manner and appearance
  • Proficiency in basic computer application software such as MS Office, E-Mail, and other business tools
  • Familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably Maximo
  • For internal candidates, must consistently receive a "meets expectations" on their IPMP (Individual Performance Management Process)
  • Experience managing contracted maintenance work and vendor relationships in healthcare settings
  • Proven track record of implementing energy conservation and cost savings initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop technical staff while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety excellence

Responsibilities

  • Check malfunctioning equipment, ascertain corrective action required to restore satisfactory operating condition, and facilitate root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Acknowledge the work orders coming in and PMs from the work order portal.
  • Supervise and implement the preventative maintenance program by scheduling tasks with minimal disruption, delegating work to appropriately qualified staff, ordering parts and equipment, and maintaining inventory
  • Direct the performance of contracted maintenance work, ensuring timely completion, overseeing equipment warranty obligations, and securing equipment manuals and drawings from installers/contractors
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory surveys while maintaining departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Recommend and estimate facilities repairs and improvements for inclusion in the annual budget while annually implementing at least one cost savings action relating to energy or utility consumption
  • Daily maintenance Rounds
  • Check in with facilities leadership and attend our leadership briefs every day in the mornings and de-briefing in the afternoon.
  • Start and complete work orders throughout the day.
  • Manage Vendors, report with facility manager.
