About the position

The Lead Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Practice Manager or Practice Supervisor by ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality care. This position involves training and onboarding new clinical team members, including Medical Assistants, and working collaboratively within a healthcare team to provide comprehensive, non-judgmental patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care.
  • Train, onboard, and support the professional development of new and existing clinical team members.
  • Room patients and take vitals as part of clinical responsibilities.
  • Perform procedures, prescription renewals, and triage patient phone calls.
  • Review charts and lab test results, and schedule patients accordingly.
  • Respond to provider messages and manage clinical documentation.
  • Act as a mentor and leader for medical assistants, providing guidance on clinical and administrative questions.
  • Supervise the work and performance of medical assistants, including input for performance reviews.
  • Oversee and train new and existing staff in collaboration with the Practice Manager and Office Coordinator.
  • Support staff with prior authorizations and referrals.
  • Coordinate inventory, ordering, and maintenance of medical supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with office staff to improve patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office.
  • Strong command of verbal and written English.
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate workflow processes and ability to identify areas of opportunity.
  • Experience in reviewing, processing, and routing clinical documentation.
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records and advanced computer skills.
  • Knowledge of physician templates and ability to manage provider schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
  • Ability to multitask and perform accurate work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Medical billing and coding knowledge.
  • Graduate of a two-year accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
