About The Position

The Lead Mechanic oversees the maintenance tasks in the service, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to ensure airworthiness. Ensures timely completion of tasks and provides training and mentorship for an assigned function area. Assists with Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities for short periods of time.

Requirements

  • Must be rated and have satisfactorily performed the work concerned at an earlier date.
  • Must use technical data to order parts and ensure the material is suitable for the aircraft being installed.
  • Must be responsible for keeping all assigned areas clean and audit-ready.
  • Must identify and eliminate hazards that pose risks to employee safety and the quality of work.
  • Must ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Must be responsible for on-time delivery in assigned skill set in coordination with other skill sets.
  • Must monitor and correct routine and non-routine labor hours prior to exceeding the allotted estimated hours.
  • Must notify Supervisor of variations in labor requirements to ensure the most efficient utilization of labor and resources and to avoid LOW when possible.
  • Must answer questions from customers as needed.
  • Must be responsible for setting timeframe expectations with technicians on task card accomplishment.
  • Must oversee On-the-Job Training (OJT) to provide learning opportunities through work assignments and mentoring.
  • Must recommend changes to processes to improve efficiencies and workflow.
  • Must comply with, communicate, and provide guidance to team members on ATS policies, procedures, and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
  • Must promote the "Balanced Technician" concept.
  • Must mentor and develop the technical and leadership skills of the mechanics.
  • Must communicate all information on assigned employees to the supervisor, including disciplinary problems.
  • May deliver or give input with performance evaluations on assigned employees.
  • Must provide regular feedback and performance coaching, including appropriate time management, task prioritization, and ensuring proper knowledge and training to accomplish assignments for all members of the assigned crew.
  • Must be responsible for accurate timekeeping, including clocking into jobs.
  • Must be responsible for the accuracy of clocking into jobs for the assigned team.
  • Must be responsible for adhering to all ATS-required training.
  • Must have regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must exhibit effective and appropriate conduct with co-workers.
  • Must be able to use a respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all tasks are promptly completed in compliance with federal regulations, customer guidelines, and company policies.
  • Reviews required customer and FAA paperwork to ensure proper maintenance updates and compliance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.
  • Leads the maintenance, preventative maintenance, or alteration of, or approves and returns to service, any aircraft, or part thereof, only for which that Lead is rated and has satisfactorily performed the work concerned at an earlier date.
  • Performs maintenance tasks as required and becomes an active crew member.
  • Conducts crew meetings to ensure communication regarding work, safety, and quality.
  • Uses technical data to order parts and ensure the material is suitable for the aircraft being installed. Ensures all parts for the specialty area are ordered promptly.
  • Ensures Engineering is submitted on time as needed.
