About the position

The Lead Material Handler is responsible for overseeing material handling operations in a warehouse environment, specifically during the 2nd shift on weekends. This role involves mentoring new material handlers, operating various material handling equipment, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The Lead Material Handler plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean workspace and supporting the overall efficiency of the Staples Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train new material handlers.
• Fill in for supervisors as needed.
• Lift, lower, and carry products in a fast-paced environment.
• Stack empty pallets and maintain a safe and clean workspace.
• Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, cherry pickers, turrets, or electric pallet jacks to move products within the warehouse.
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures and promote a safety culture.

Requirements

• 12+ months related experience in a warehouse environment or equivalent training, education, and experience.
• Ability to pass a drug screen legally permissible.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull equipment/merchandise weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to walk and stand 100% of the time.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to be Material Handling Equipment Operator certified.

Nice-to-haves

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
