About the position

Our client, a global packing leader headquartered in northern New Jersey, is seeking an experienced employment lawyer to serve as their sole L&E counsel, advising and supporting the human resource function and its initiatives, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, partnering on employee relations matters and overseeing investigations. This role will report directly into the General Counsel and CHRO.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sound, practical and proactive legal advice to human resources and management on all aspects of employment law, including performance management, discrimination and harassment prevention and workplace investigations, diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour issues, contingent workers, compensation, pay equity, terminations and restructuring.
  • Work with human resources to develop and maintain appropriate policies, procedures and best practices for our global workforce.
  • Prepare and conduct training for human resources and management.
  • Draft employment, separation and other agreements and forms.
  • Handle potential litigation, administrative charges, and manage employment litigation matters.

Requirements

  • Six to fifteen years of experience in employment law, either with a top law firm or mix of law firm and in house.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Able to weigh risks against operational needs to develop practical recommendations, including risk mitigation strategies, and provide sound legal advice.
