About the position

The Lead Grants Specialist at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is responsible for providing specialized public awards administration and finance/accounting-related services to support the organization's programs in the Eastern Region. This role involves overseeing a team, ensuring compliance with TNC policies and legal requirements, and managing public award documentation and financial activities. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders while contributing to TNC's mission of environmental conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Administers public awards.
  • Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support and training related to award administration.
  • Participates in complex negotiations.
  • Makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment.
  • Supervises and manages a team of GSN staff, monitoring funding trends and capacity.
  • Builds cooperation with internal parties to accomplish program goals.
  • Tracks and assists with single project audits for assigned region.
  • Communicates with the Grants Manager to report, discuss and resolve issues.
  • Participates in and implements special projects established with Grants Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • 3 years or more of experience with public award accounting/financial issues and analysis.
  • Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Technical experience with Microsoft Excel, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
  • Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/accounting/management best practice.
  • Experience analyzing a regulatory framework and applying it to the situation at hand.
  • Knowledge of current trends in specific field.
  • Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.
  • Experience coordinating and leading projects.
