About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer at AECOM will support the Energy Business Line by providing electrical engineering services across various market sectors, including transmission, power distribution, renewables, and next-generation energy solutions. This role involves mentoring other engineers, managing project workloads, and ensuring high-quality engineering outputs while maintaining client relationships. The position offers flexibility in work location, allowing for remote work or office-based arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship to other electrical engineers within the Energy Center of Excellence and other remote teams
  • Support the Chief Electrical Engineer in developing workload forecasts, design schedules, and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
  • Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis
  • Direct electrical infrastructure physical layout and create one-line and three-line diagrams
  • Develop construction and electrical equipment specifications
  • Create wiring diagrams and schematics, panel layouts, and schedules
  • Prepare plan drawings such as grounding plans, lighting plans, and cable tray plans
  • Compile electrical lists including cable and conduit schedules, load lists, and equipment lists
  • Conduct calculations for ampacity, cable sizing, conduit sizing, transformer sizing, and grounding analysis
  • Review engineering work performed by peers and attend client meetings
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 6+ years of relevant electrical experience
  • EIT Certification with willingness to attain professional engineering license

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic degree from ABET accredited college or university
  • PE licensure
  • 3+ years as discipline technical lead on projects
  • 10+ years of relevant electrical experience
  • Successful track record working with remote teams
  • Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, NESC, IEEE, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity with current building codes and standards
  • Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
  • Plant startup and commissioning field experience
  • Power systems analysis software experience (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)
  • Solar or wind facility experience
  • Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks) and laser scan data
