About the position

The Community Moderation Manager at Nextdoor is responsible for driving strategic initiatives to enhance community moderation and engagement across the platform. This role involves developing and managing community-focused programs, analyzing user behavior, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective moderation practices. The ideal candidate will leverage data-driven insights to foster positive interactions within the community and support a diverse group of volunteer moderators.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong vision for community moderation with a focus on scalability and quality.
  • Maintain oversight and management of the community moderation program.
  • Develop strategies to increase user participation and retention.
  • Serve as the representative of Nextdoor to moderators, fostering positive relationships.
  • Implement an educational program on best practices in community moderation.
  • Organize and maintain resources including written and video content, and virtual events.
  • Engage with the community to understand needs and expectations.
  • Identify key metrics and KPIs to measure community moderation engagement and quality.
  • Collaborate with data science teams to refine data collection and analysis methods.
  • Analyze incident trends to identify areas for improvement in policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with product, policy, marketing, and customer support teams to align community programs with business objectives.
  • Partner with global Community Managers to ensure moderators are supported.
  • Advocate for moderators with Product and Policy teams to ensure cohesive communication.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in community management.
  • Implement feedback loops to continuously improve community moderation programs.

Requirements

  • At least 7-10 years of direct experience working with online moderators.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Looker).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Community crisis management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build out community programs and education.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • A bias towards action and ability to work autonomously.
  • Flexibility to navigate a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training development and facilitation.
  • Experience with basic video editing and content creation tactics.
