About the position

The Large Loss Field Claims Adjuster at American Family Insurance is a lead-level role responsible for investigating and managing complex property and casualty claims. This position focuses on ensuring customer satisfaction by effectively handling claims, determining liability, and negotiating settlements. The role requires a high degree of independence and expertise in claims adjustment, particularly for claims exceeding $50,000. The adjuster will primarily work from home, with local travel expected within Northern California, and will report directly to the Claim Manager.

Responsibilities

• Investigate the origin and cause of high-exposure claims by contacting relevant parties.
• Participate in High Damage Reviews (HDR) to address coverage issues and exposure.
• Handle both 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policy types and endorsements.
• Conduct on-site inspections when needed and evaluate damages.
• Negotiate claims with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and public adjusters.
• Respond to customer inquiries and provide updates on the claim process.
• Interpret and apply policy coverages to assigned losses.
• Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert for less experienced adjusters.

Requirements

• 5 or more years of experience handling field property claims.
• Experience with claims over $50,000.
• Advanced knowledge of Xactimate software.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain state-specific property casualty claims licensing.
