About the position
The Landscape Estimator at Haydon Companies is responsible for providing and coordinating full estimating services on large, complex landscape construction projects. This role involves reviewing proposal specifications and drawings, preparing detailed estimates, and maintaining accurate documentation to support the estimating process. The estimator will also collaborate with other departments and may recommend design options based on cost and material availability.
Responsibilities
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current information on prices from suppliers.
- Support other department personnel as required, which may include preparing estimates in other disciplines.
- Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical training and/or related experience.
- 5-8 years of estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience, with at least 4 years in estimating for similar facility construction.
- Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, and cost control systems.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of landscape construction and methods.
- Advanced understanding of the project life cycle, including bid, proposal, and estimation processes.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with scheduling and bid/estimating software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
