About the position
The Lands Resource Specialist - Forest Management position at the Idaho Department of Lands is designed for training purposes, preparing the employee to advance to a Lands Resource Specialist, Senior role. The position involves managing timber sales and forest improvement projects, ensuring compliance with state laws and department policies, and participating in fire management activities. The role is essential for managing a significant portion of the area's timber volume and contributes to the department's mission of sustainable resource management.
Responsibilities
- Prepare timber sale projects in the field, including establishing project boundaries and developing silvicultural prescriptions.
- Prepare forest improvement projects in the field, such as planting and pre-commercial thinning.
- Document timber sale and forest management projects, including writing project descriptions and compiling timber cruise data.
- Administer timber sale and forest improvement projects for compliance with management objectives and applicable laws.
- Supervise others involved in project execution.
Requirements
- Experience in effective verbal and written communication, including technical reports and presentations.
- Experience using geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial data analysis.
- Some knowledge of state and federal laws related to natural resource management activities.
- Some knowledge of project evaluation methods and financial analysis methods.
Nice-to-haves
