About the position

The position involves monitoring, operating, maintaining, and repairing various sanitation and landfill equipment at the Chattanooga Landfill. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and performing essential functions under limited supervision. The role requires a combination of technical skills and the ability to work with various equipment and systems related to landfill operations.

Responsibilities

• Monitors, operates, maintains, and repairs various sanitation and landfill equipment.
• Collects stormwater and leachate samples for analysis.
• Prepares and submits documentation related to landfill operations and maintenance activities.
• Serves as the required role of Landfill Technician for compliance with State and Federal permits.
• Uses measures to minimize emissions during operations.
• Interprets technical blueprints and schematics.
• Conducts regular inspections and maintenance tasks.
• Maintains and operates pump stations and other landfill equipment.
• Fabricates repairs and installs modifications on the Landfill Gas flare system.
• Conducts routine environmental sampling and testing.
• Generates reports to comply with air pollution and state regulations.
• Performs routine inspections of landfill systems.
• Operates scales and inspects incoming loads.
• Maintains good interpersonal relationships with staff and citizens.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Five years of experience and/or related vocational or tech training.
• Experience in mechanics, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, welding, carpentry, or general building maintenance.
• Two or more years of experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
• Must maintain Tennessee residency from the date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• CDL Class B License preferred.
• TDEC EPSC Level 1 Certification within six months of hire.
• OSHA Confined Space Certification within six months of hire.
• OSHA 30-hr Training within six months of hire.
• City of Chattanooga Journeyman's License within six months of hire.
• Limited Licensed Plumber (LLP) license preferred.
• Grade I Collector System Operator Certification within one year of hire.
