This position is part of the Genetics Program and involves working effectively in a cross-functional team environment. The role requires receiving, verifying, labeling, and preparing clinical specimens for testing and shipping. Responsibilities may include registering patient samples and requesting tests in the LIS, and performing non-complex sample processing. Service coverage for meals, breaks, vacation, and sick leave is also required. Adherence to health and safety guidelines, including universal precautions, and compliance with the laboratory quality assurance program are essential. The role encourages initiative, assisting co-workers, and potentially assisting in the instruction of medical laboratory students and other healthcare workers. The position is permanent casual and based in Ottawa, with the possibility of location changes. Candidates will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).

Requirements

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)
  • OSMT or College Technician (MLA) Certificate (or appropriate combination of training and experience) (Essential)
  • Demonstrated verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills (Essential)

  • Works effectively under minimal supervision (Essential)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a genetics laboratory (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Receive, verify, label and prepare clinical specimens for testing and shipping
