About The Position

California School Employees Association is seeking a Labor Relations Representative to represent their members in the Redding, CA area. This is a home-office position reporting to the Field Director in the Sacramento Field Office. The role requires travel, frequent nights, and weekend hours. The Labor Relations Representative's primary function is to recruit, train, and develop members, lead and mobilize them for political action, and serve as their advocate. They also assist with representational matters. CSEA represents over 250,000 school employees across California and is committed to expanding the rights of classified school employees by securing benefits, pensions, protections, and funding. Their mission is to champion the rights, dignity, and welfare of working people, with values including advocating for affordable healthcare and security for working families.

Requirements

  • A strong desire to recruit and mobilize volunteers around important issues
  • Bachelor’s degree in a subject that still excites you
  • Work experience relevant to organizing and recruiting new members
  • Experience with negotiations, advocacy or dispute resolution is a strong plus
  • Excellent communications skills

Responsibilities

  • Recruits and trains members
  • Negotiates contracts
  • Provides leadership to rank-and-file negotiators and committees in collective bargaining
  • Represents members in hearings
  • Identifies and develops member leaders, chapter officers and stewards
  • Influences members and staff
  • Develops members who are committed as advocates for the union
