About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor in conjunction with the Manager of Laboratory Services, this role is responsible for assisting in the overall operations of the Clinical Laboratory to promote efficient, high-quality outcomes. There are two positions available: one full-time day shift and one full-time evening shift (2pm - 10pm). Shift availability will be confirmed at the time of the first interview.

Requirements

  • BLS/CPR required
  • At least 1+ year in a clinical role preferred
  • PBT or MLA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection in accordance with regulations and best practices, utilizing age-appropriate techniques.
  • Provides patient information within the scope of practice and refers technical questions appropriately.
  • Participates in Laboratory Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Improvement (QI) policies and projects.
  • Performs CLIA waived testing and pre-analytical sample processing in various laboratory sections as trained and deemed competent.
  • Maintains competency as required by CLIA regulations and Laboratory policy.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to hospital and Laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Performs Outpatient Laboratory Registrations, including new patient profiles, consent to treat, insurance verification, and diagnosis/ICD-10 entry.
  • Reviews Physician Laboratory orders for completeness and medical necessity.
  • Performs electronic and/or manual order entry and reviews ABNs with patients.
  • Manages preparation, distribution, storage, and retrieval of Laboratory reports.
  • Processes Reference Laboratory results/reports.
  • Manages phlebotomy/clerical supply inventory and maintains appropriate stock levels.
  • Obtains patient samples in accordance with regulations and best practices.
  • Provides age-appropriate instructions to patients for optimal specimen collection.
  • Ensures proper sample labeling with two unique identifiers.
  • Performs appropriate sample processing, including quality assessment, centrifugation, separation, and proper storage.
  • Handles Reference Laboratory procedures for clinical and anatomical samples, including processing, ordering, and sending out samples.
