About The Position

Eugene Field A+ Elementary is seeking a Kindergarten Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. Eugene Field is South Dakota’s first A+ (arts plus academics) school, integrating daily art instruction across music, visual art, drama, and dance. Classroom and arts teachers collaborate to ensure curriculum is taught through the arts and the arts are taught through the curriculum, providing diverse learning opportunities for all students. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment.
  • Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate.
  • Successful student teaching experience.
  • Hand-eye, mind-eye coordination.
  • Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
  • Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management.
  • Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
  • Valid South Dakota teaching certification with the Self-Contained K-4th, Birth Through Grade Three, or Kindergarten endorsement.
  • Completion of at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years.
  • Provide most recent certificate of completion for youth suicide awareness and prevention training prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to Plan and Prepare Instructional Tasks: Plan instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals.
  • Provide Instruction to Students: Implement District curriculum, maintain a strong instructional focus, communicate high expectations and clear learning goals, adapt instruction to meet diverse needs, address various learning styles, sequence content appropriately, use effective questioning, relate lesson content to prior and future learning, require students to summarize information, recognize and reinforce individual student effort, represent knowledge non-linguistically, organize students into groups, require students to analyze and apply knowledge, display enjoyment and enthusiasm for teaching, conduct ongoing assessments.
  • Provide Effective Classroom Environment: Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and procedures, redirect students naturally, be well-organized, ensure smooth transitions, maximize time on instructional tasks, begin and end class with a focus on learning, establish a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in Professional Growth Opportunities and Demonstrate Professionalism: Participate in ongoing professional growth, participate in school/professional/community organizations, complete routine tasks, comply with District requirements, promote the education profession, communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students, conduct parent-teacher conferences.
  • Follow District and building policies and procedures.
  • Support of District goals.
  • Report student progress to parents and students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
