About the position

The position involves creating an inclusive elementary environment with high expectations that fosters learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students and motivate them to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for a solid foundation in elementary education, tailored to each student's abilities. Building good relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members is also a key component of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches all core academic content areas as well as social development utilizing best practices in accordance with the curriculum frameworks.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, and discovery learning, incorporating release of responsibility.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, maintains accurate and appropriate records, and prepares report cards and assessment reports.
  • Communicates with parents through various means to discuss classroom happenings and academic planning and events.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and learning locations throughout the classroom.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with assigned administration to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with the bargaining agreement.
  • Adopts a team approach and demonstrates a willingness to contribute to an already positive school culture.
