About the position
The position of Elementary School Teacher at Dr. Charles Smith Early Childhood Center is designed to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs. Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Supervisor of Special Services, the teacher will implement district-approved curriculum, document teaching and student progress, and address students' specific needs while providing a safe and optimal learning environment. The role involves conducting assessments, participating in PPTs, and assisting in the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students. The teacher will also coordinate with administrators and other staff to ascertain individual student abilities and needs, serve as a resource for students and parents, and encourage parental involvement in education.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
- Participate in PPTs and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
- Serve as a resource to students and parents to provide support for personal growth and behavioral management.
- Acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication.
Requirements
- NJ Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
