About the position
The Kennel Technician role involves providing compassionate care for animals in a kennel environment, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. The position requires a strong understanding of animal handling practices and involves significant daily cleaning duties, alongside front desk responsibilities and dog bathing. The ideal candidate must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to working weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in kennels and surrounding areas daily to promote a healthy environment.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to staff.
- Assist with animal restraint for grooming and nail trims to ensure safety.
- Handle dogs and other animals safely, employing proper lifting techniques when necessary.
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and greet/check in customers.
- Perform dog bathing, blow drying, brushing, nail clipping, and other grooming responsibilities.
- Ensure all kennel, cleaning, and bathing supplies are stocked and organized efficiently.
- Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both animals and staff.
Requirements
- Previous experience in animal handling or care is preferred; experience as a kennel or vet tech is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior and restraint techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required (50 pounds or more).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their welfare.
- Familiarity with kennel operations or a boarding/doggy daycare setting is advantageous.
- Willingness to learn new skills related to dog training and animal care practices.
