About the position

Hot Springs County School District #1 is looking for a K-4 school counselor. This position will work with students, teachers, and parents in a Professional Learning Community environment to support student success. The position is involved in student schedule management and behaviour assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide social emotional counseling as needed for all students, using the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) research based standards.
  • Provide crisis counseling when needed, perform threat assessments as needed, along with follow up counseling.
  • Counseling for students with IEPs and 504s.
  • Conduct weekly counseling lessons to all grades including social skills/emotional learning, college and career education, and academic importance.
  • Teach from curriculum resources like ASCA national standards, Kelso's Choices, Zones of Regulation and The Spot Emotions series.
  • Facilitate social skills groups, typically 4-5 students per group, lasting 10-12 weeks each.
  • Act as a social emotional coach for teachers in collaboration.
  • Provide parent resources and send monthly newsletters to all parents.
  • Promote school culture by highlighting and promoting celebrations and partnering with the principal.
  • Assist on the playground during recess to implement problem solving curriculum.
  • Work with Pre-K to provide social/emotional lessons.
  • Organize parent nights with local resources and partner with DFS, law enforcement, etc.
  • Member of the school Student Intervention Team (SIT) and meet weekly.
  • Contact parents to provide resources for information and skills needed at home.
  • Work toward adopting the ASCA National Model Standards to build a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the district.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed and endorsed as a school counselor through PTSB.
  • Completion of a Master's degree in School Counseling.
  • Must include copies of transcripts showing a Master's degree and PTSB certification, or pending status of such, along with letters of recommendation.
