About the position

The Juvenile Probation Officer Supervisor (SES) is responsible for overseeing the case management and supervision of youth involved in the juvenile justice system. This role involves engaging with youth, families, and community partners to ensure appropriate interventions and support services are provided. The supervisor will lead a team in conducting assessments, formulating case plans, and facilitating court processes, while also ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate contact with youth, families, victims, and law enforcement upon receiving referrals.
  • Conduct home and school visits as part of the information collection process.
  • Engage youth and families using Motivational Interviewing techniques to assess needs.
  • Review collateral information from various agencies regarding the youth's background.
  • Conduct and document screenings and assessments to identify risks and needs.
  • Facilitate comprehensive assessments and refer youth and families for necessary services.
  • Document all service referrals and the acceptance or refusal of services by youth or parents.
  • Formulate case management strategies based on assessments and information gathered.
  • Make supervision and treatment recommendations to judicial partners.
  • Discuss safety plans with youth and families to prevent victimization.
  • Prepare and maintain social histories, court reports, and related correspondence.
  • Explain court procedures to youth and families and testify at hearings when necessary.
  • Complete risk and needs assessments for all youth supervised by the department.
  • Conduct face-to-face contacts in various settings, including non-traditional hours.
  • Assist youth in obtaining mental health and substance abuse evaluations and treatment.
  • Follow up with service providers to ensure progress reports are received.
  • Assist youth and families in accessing community resources and services.
  • Monitor a specialized client caseload and document all case work in JJIS.
  • Respond to concerns and needs presented by youth, families, and the community.
  • Prepare case transfer or progress summaries within required timeframes.
  • Participate in transition and exit planning for youth pending release from residential programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and conduct case reviews with staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or four years of relevant experience working with adolescents.
  • An associate degree and two years of relevant experience working with adolescents.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of case management practices and interviewing techniques is essential.
  • Ability to provide counseling and guidance, develop case plans, and coordinate assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University is preferred.
  • Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth, particularly delinquent youth, is preferred.
