About The Position

The Felician Sisters of North America are hiring a part-time Justice and Peace Coordinator Associate to work in our Chicago (60659 area near Lincolnwood and North Park neighborhoods) location. This position will average 20 -29 hours per week and offers a flexible hybrid setting after the initial training/orientation onsite. The Felician Sisters of North America are part of a joyful international community of vowed women religious who lead contemplative-active lives of service. Pioneers in health care, education and social services, the Felician Sisters of North America have founded, sponsor, co-sponsor, or support through the presence of the sisters, more than 40 ministries across the continent. Following the example of our foundress, Blessed Mary Angela, Felician Sisters stand with and advocate for those without a voice in our society — the marginalized, the oppressed, and the vulnerable — working to restore human dignity and rights to all of God’s people. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Justice and Peace Coordinator Associate works alongside the Provincial Justice and Peace Coordinator providing leadership and direction to the justice work of the Felician Sisters of North America as conveyed in their Corporate Stands, the Mission and Vision of the Congregation, and further delineated in Chapter Enactments. Corporate Stands include but are not limited to: Current justice issues such as human trafficking, death penalty, homelessness, immigration and gun violence.

Requirements

Spiritually mature with a strong sense of vocation to social justice and a deep respect for Catholic Social Teaching.
Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred.
Applicants with degrees in the areas of Social justice, Restorative Justice, Community Organizing, Theology, Public Policy, Political Science, etc. will be strongly considered.
At least three to five years of experience in a position focused on education and activism in the areas of Catholic Social Teaching/Social Justice.
Possess some knowledge of religious life and can demonstrate a personal commitment to the Catholic Social and Moral Teaching.
Clear understanding and connection with the Mission and Vision of the Congregation.
Knowledge of current best practices in the field of justice and advocacy work.
Strong emotional intelligence and judgment; demonstrated ability to build strong relationships across lines of difference and points of view.
Possesses the ability to be a self-starter, capable of follow-through, functions effectively as a team member, and demonstrates evidence of a high degree of sensitivity to persons and issues.
Proactive, self-directed, and able to multitask effectively.
Must excel at fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships, both internal and external to the organization.
Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to create and guide learning and supportive spaces for dialogue.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Energy and passion around justice issues and the ability to coordinate opportunities for appropriate responsive action.
Ability to exercise sound pastoral and strategic judgment in complex or rapidly changing circumstances.
Ability to be objective and to adjust and rearrange priorities.
Holds a working knowledge of and/or comfort with distance communication (e.g., using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile, and ability to drive and a valid passport.
Must be willing to travel by plane at time.

Nice To Haves

Experience in facilitating and convening groups.
Demonstrated experience in promoting education, social activism and related initiatives, such as issuing educational alerts, statements, sign-ons, or engaging in issue campaigns, forming coalitions, etc.
Catholic faith and teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

Support and serve as a resource to the Provincial Leadership Team, the Felician Sisters, and the Felician Associates regarding the ideals of Catholic Social Teaching and issues calling for a justice response.
Coordinate actions, create educational resources and reflection materials around issues related to justice and peace.
Create opportunities for education and action for the sisters, associates, and collaborators.
Maintain vital relationships with congregations, nonprofit organizations, and justice-related networks, responding to global, national, regional, and local issues.
Represent the Felician Sisters of North America at local, regional, and national conferences and gatherings related to social justice.
Communicates and promotes awareness of critical issues related to peace, justice and the integrity of creation on local, regional and national levels.
Serves as liaison/representative with local, regional, and national peace and justice organizations.
Collaborate with the Communications Department to develop timely position statements that reflect the mission and core values of the Felician Sisters of North America on matters or situations of national and/or international concern as they emerge.
Lead educational workshops/presentations/trainings and events on justice issues.
Build greater awareness and advocacy around the province’s corporate stands.
Disseminate e-newsletters and action alerts, as well as collaborate with communications office partners regarding province’s social media content related to justice and advocacy issues.
