Junior Web Developer (Remote)

About the position

GovCIO is seeking a Junior Web Developer with a focus on UI/UX and Human Centered Design (HCD) to enhance web-based interfaces and business dashboards. This remote position involves collaborating with clients to translate business needs into technical specifications, designing user interfaces, and ensuring compliance with accessibility regulations. The role emphasizes innovative methodologies and best practices in web development, particularly for analytics dashboards and forms-based interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design web page layout, graphics, color schemes, and infrastructure to maintain a cohesive brand.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to determine application requirements and long-term strategy.
• Develop web-based user interfaces based on current technologies and requirements.
• Work with software developers and testers to incorporate interface elements into the information system.
• Provide visual experience guidance and standards for applications.
• Advocate for HCD and Design Thinking in contract deliverables.
• Conduct presentations and education on HCD/Design Thinking benefits.
• Facilitate working sessions for HCD and Design Thinking.
• Design data visualization solutions and create mockups and use cases.
• Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting of applications.
• Evaluate and improve existing data visualization systems.
• Design visualizations and reports that comply with Section 508 regulations.
• Create and update technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Technology, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in relevant fields.
• Proven experience in Data Visualization, Software, or Business Intelligence Design.
• 1 year experience in a programming language (Preferred: Python, JavaScript, DAX, SQL, or R).
• Understanding of HTML Box Model and CSS layout controls.
• Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with Agile Methodology.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with UI form and dashboard mockups.
• Thought leadership in visualizations and use case analysis.
• Experience with CSS and mockup tools like Axure.
• 1 year experience in a front-end framework (Preferred: React or Vue).
• Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI).
• Knowledge of SQL queries and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Background in data warehouse design and data mining.
• Familiarity with Microsoft low code solutions (PowerApps, SharePoint).
• Strong written communication and documentation experience.
